Here’s the released information for Jyuuzaengi Engetsu Sangokuden 2 so far. As mentioned in a previous post, the sequel’s setting is the Battle of the Red Cliffs, with Keishuu (Jingzhou) being the main stage. According to an interview with director Itou (RED Entertainment), the timeline of the story would generally follow Ryuu Bi’s route from the first game after the Battle of Kanto (Guandu). The starting point would be around the time of the Battle of Chouhan (Changban). The theme is 血戦 which refers to the literal meaning of a bloody battle, as well as a battle which puts each of their blood on the line (humans, Maozoku, and mixed). It’s been confirmed that the Maozoku sub-characters from the previous game would appear, but as for the other sub-characters we need to wait for more information.
Here's more information on the new characters for Jyuuzaengi 2:
Shokatsu Ryou (Zhuge Liang) CV: Sakurai Takahiro
“It’s alright if you just listen to me obediently. Don’t do anything unnecessary.”
The cool-headed strategist who possesses a godsend talent. The genius strategist led a life separated from the world in Keishuu. He hates war and has made it a point to not involve himself with humans, yet he lent a helping hand to the Maozoku who came to Keishuu. For the sake of handling things with reason, he is capable of passing ruthless judgements too. Due to this, his opinion often conflicts with Kan U’s. The reason behind him helping the Maozoku is unknown.
Keyword: 傷 (wound; injury)
Director Itou’s comments: At first he had a trickster-ish setting. But there was the advice that it would be better to go with an orthodox approach for Shokatsu Ryou. So we cut the idea of inserting a trickster among the Maozoku full of tricksters, and made him into the composed strategist type. Thanks to him, the Maozoku managed to live on. It’s a mystery as to why he is on their side, and what he is thinking. He thinks and copes with everything with composure, so he often clashes with Kan U who inadvertently prioritises people’s feelings.
Artist Teita’s comments: I thought of him possessing a cold impression, an impression completely different from Shuu Yu. Being a strategist and having an image of not fighting a lot, I drew him with a well-behaved but brilliant atmosphere that wouldn’t lose out to the other characters.
Shuu Yu (Zhou Yu) CV: Morita Masakazu
“What I said just now wasn’t a joke. I want you.”
The Maozoku general who fights alongside humans. The last Maozoku in Keishuu, who was left all alone from a young age. He led a life of self-abandonment till he was taken in by Son Saku (Sun Ce) and fought under him. He possesses military power and is clear-headed, and so he’s trusted deeply by the humans and also popular among the women. After his benefactor Son Saku passed away, he now assists his brother, Son Ken, for him to become a fine ruler. He holds a strong interest towards Kan U, the first female Maozoku he’s met.
Keyword: 宿命 (fate; destiny)
Director Itou’s comments: Being the mediator between Maozoku and Go (Wu), we made Shuu Yu a Maozoku. The key area this time is Keishuu, and so based on this setting he would be largely entwined together with the area. At first glance, he appears to be far apart from the Shuu Yu we know, but he does possess the vital elements. In the previous game there wasn’t a light-hearted but sweet character. But it wouldn’t be interesting to just have that, so we entwined him with the setting. To Shuu Yu, Kan U is the first female Maozoku he’s met so from the start he approaches Kan U instinctively.
Artist Teita’s comments: I was presented with many factors, so through trial and error I finally drew him. And in order to differentiate him from the other Maozoku, I drew him lop-eared. I was conscious of the Scottish Fold (laugh).
Son Ken (Sun Quan) CV: Matsuoka Yoshitsugu
“I want to protect this beautiful country which I took over from both my father and brother.”
The young ruler of Go (Wu) who respected his father and brother’s dying wish. As his father, Son Ken (Sun Jian), and elder brother, Son Saku (Sun Ce), passed away, he became the ruler despite his young ago. Compared to the two of them, he isn’t as showy but he is steadily protecting the country. He is quite a sharp and able person, and can also be ruthless for the sake of his country. He has a straight personality, and jokes don’t get through him. Though he is rather expressionless, he strongly cherishes the country left by his father and brother. He trusts Shuu Yu, Son Saku’s close friend.
Keyword: 誇り (pride)
Director Itou’s comments: He was created with the image of an obedient younger brother, who would read at home while seeing his brother who’s a lot older than him (Son Saku) and his friend (Shuu Yu) act mischievous outside. He respects his father and brother and worked hard at his studies so as to be useful to the both of them. However, without wishing for it he became the ruler following their deaths. While knowing that he does not possess their calibre, more than anyone else he strongly cherishes the country and is steadily protecting it. Though he is still young, he possesses the boldness to argue fearlessly with Sou Sou. His personality is as straight as it could possibly be, and as jokes don’t get through him he is often deceived and made fun of by Shuu Yu.
Artist Teita’s comments: He’s a character who bears the burden of a country, and so his face displays that strong will. In the story, the original character moves a lot. So I considered showy clothes which would both give off the impression of his high status as well as be easy to move in. Though I don’t know if the clothes are really easy to move in (laugh).
