Getsuei no Kusari -Sakuran Paranoia- is a CERO-C (15+) otome game being released for the PSP tomorrow by Takuyo. Since it has received relatively little exposure, some descriptions and translations are in order.
Koukashi (Crimson Mist City) is the only city on a small island far away from the mainland and was once a booming town that thrived off of tourism, its chief industry. However, perhaps due to insecurity about the Taisho period reaching its end or perhaps because of the disaster that wracked the island, customers gradually stopped coming. Koukashi experienced a crisis of economic collapse, casting its residents into a gloomy shadow.
However, there is a single ray of hope for the citizens: a group of young people that works towards public order and for the future of the town called the Kouka Seinen-dan (Crimson Mist Youth Association). The people have particularly placed their expectations in the leader of the Kouka Seinen-dan, Kagurazaka Hibiki, and his right hand man Mochizuki Satoya.
In addition, to help with the reconstruction after the disaster and restore public order, a solder named Inoguchi Wataru has been dispatched from the mainland. There is also the mysterious young man, Haruna Nozomu, who is a traveller, but seems to have some kind of business on the island nonetheless.
Each one of them carries out their own form of justice upon the problem that is currently plaguing the island.
In the midst of all this, a man summoned by the mayor has proposed a "garrison attraction plan", an idea which has begun to circulate, plunging the city even more into confusion.
It also comes to pass that Fuyuura Megumi, the proprietress of a small restaurant, is also inevitably caught up in this maelstrom.
—this is the story of people who are desperately fighting to live during a period of great upheaval.
Fuyuura Megumi, the 17-year-old heroine. (her name is changeable) She works as the proprietress of Tsuki no Hotori (Beside the Moon), a small restaurant in the corner of Koukashi. She is currently living with an older brother with whom she has no blood relationship.
Kagurazaka Hibiki, age unknown. (CV: Shingaki Tarusuke) The knowledgeable orator. Though he is not a man originally from the island, after the calamity in Koukashi one year ago, Hibiki became the leader of the autonomous entity Kouka Seinen-dan and endeared himself to the people. He has become someone whom the citizens rely upon.
"This appearance. It'd be strange for people not to be bothered by it, but none of them say anything."
Mochizuki Satoya, 19 years old. (CV: Matsuoka Yoshitsugu) He acts as Kagurazaka's right hand man and is the captain of the shock corps. Despite not yet being in a position where he is able to help, Satoya worries about how to change the current situation somehow. A polite person, his strong point is that he is able to use his body more than his head.
"That is why I respect you."
Inoguchi Wataru, 22 years old. (CV: Asanuma Shintarou) He is the soldier dispatched to the island from the mainland, but he actually comes from a distinguished family on the island. He wishes to somehow ease the situation of his younger brother, who was born to a different mother from a foreign country and has long since been discriminated against by the islanders.
"I hope that the days where we can never stand on center stage will continue forever."
Haruna Nozomu, 17 years old. (CV: Naruse Makoto) A young man visiting Koukashi and sight-seeing. When he has spare time, he comes calling at Tsuki no Hotori, immersing the heroine in seductions for his own self-satisfaction. He doesn't like talking about himself much and somehow seems to hold many secrets.
"As I thought, rather than your smiling face, perhaps your melancholic face is more to my liking?"
The following are supporting characters and are thus not obtainable.
Ooigawa Mamoru, 19 years old. (CV: Miura Hiroaki) The heroine's non-blood-related older brother. He has entrusted the house and store to his sister and works as a newspaper reporter. Mamoru always looks sleepy and can be seen to have a listless attitude.
"Once I've decided the time frame, I finish my work during that period—that's the way I do things."
Fukami Mikoto, 54 years old. (CV: Kirimoto Takuya) The president of a consulting firm, Mikoto is well-versed in western culture. For the sake of fixing Koukashi's financial affairs and rebuilding, the mayor invited him to the island. He has proposed a certain plan and it seems the public doesn't like him very much.
"Oh my, you certainly have splendidly idealistic thoughts."
Inoguchi Noa, 9 years old. (CV: Hirohashi Ryou) A child of mixed race living in the Inoguchi household. He loves his older brother very much and always sticks closely to him whenever the two are together. His mother came from a foreign country. Because of this, he has been discriminated against by the other residents of the island and thus has an extremely introverted, timid personality by nature.
"After all, Big Bro is my big bro!"
Ayame, 38 years old. (CV: Shindou Naomi) She works as a geisha at Benihana Rou in Koukashi's red light district. She is an enthusiastic older sister who guides her juniors. Now semi-retired, she personally continues to teach music, poetry, and dance to her pupils.
"'Love turns people into adults', you know. Keep that in mind?"
